The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Md. Moynul Islam, stated that the Tourist Police plays a crucial role in the development of the tourism industry by ensuring the safety of tourists and preserving the environment. He further emphasized that everyone must come forward to support sustainable environmental conservation.
The IGP made these remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled "Environmental Sustainability in Tourism: Responsibility of the Police" organized by the Tourist Police Headquarters on Thursday (September 26). He highlighted that the Tourist Police is making relentless efforts to attract both domestic and international tourists while focusing on the safety of tourists.
The IGP also mentioned that the Tourist Police is working collaboratively with the Tourism Department, public and private tour operators, local communities, and NGOs. He called upon the Tourist Police to work in coordination with the Forest and Environment Departments to prevent environmental damage. He stressed that tourism plays a significant role in the country's economic and social development, and everyone must be aware of the importance of ensuring a sustainable environment for the growth of the tourism industry.
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Santosh Kumar Deb, a professor in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Dhaka University. He emphasized the vital role of the Tourist Police in developing the tourism industry by maintaining law and order and creating a tourism-friendly environment. He also stressed the need for increasing the use of modern technology by the Tourist Police to ensure the safety of tourists.
The seminar was attended by senior police officers, tourism sector professionals, representatives of government and private tour operators, and students.
