OxfordAQA, the world’s fastest-growing international exam board, was officially launched in Bangladesh yesterday. The launch event was held at The Westin Dhaka and highlighted OxfordAQA’s commitment to providing international education based on UK assessment standards.
According to a press release, OxfordAQA aims to prepare students for global success by emphasizing higher-order thinking skills and offering accessible qualifications for students whose first language is not English. The event was led by Shahin Reza, OxfordAQA’s newly appointed country director for Bangladesh and Nepal, and included presentations by Managing Director Andrew Coombe and Training & Support Team Leader Matt MacGregor.
Professor SMA Faiz, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), attended the event as the chief guest. British Council Exams Director Maxim Raimann was also present as a special guest and officially announced OxfordAQA’s entry into Bangladesh’s education sector.
OxfordAQA is a joint venture between Oxford University Press and AQA, the UK’s largest GCSE and A-level exam board. It aims to bring a fair and modern approach to international assessment, with qualifications tailored specifically for global learners. Professor Faiz welcomed the launch, expressing hope that OxfordAQA would offer affordable qualifications and necessary teacher training to help maintain international standards in local schools.
Maxim Raimann reaffirmed the British Council’s support for UK exam boards in delivering quality exams. Shahin Reza noted that school leaders across Bangladesh had responded positively to OxfordAQA’s introduction and emphasized the board’s commitment to supporting Bangladeshi schools. Matt MacGregor added that he looked forward to providing comprehensive and examiner-led training and support as OxfordAQA expands in the country.
